Beginning 2019, you will be able to use an app on your smartphone to rent a bike and enjoy a ride around the lake at Choccolocco Park. The company is VeoRide, and rental rates start at 50 cents for 15 minutes, and you can pay-as-you-go or get a membership plan.
This new amenity grew out of a desire for a family-friendly activity the city could offer at Choccolocco Park. The Oxford City Council and Mayor Alton Craft saw an opportunity to bring in a bike share program that would benefit locals and out-of-town visitors at the park. “We know families travel together to come to sporting events at Choccolocco Park, and we wanted them to be able to ride around the lake in-between games,” Mayor Craft explained. “We have beautiful weather, a great bike trail, and now they can enjoy another fun activity with the bikes provided by
Choccolocco Park is excited to announce another collegiate baseball tournament coming to Oxford. The Gulf South Conference Championship Baseball Tournament will be played at our nationally-ranked sports complex in 2019 and 2020.
From Wednesday, May 1st, to Sunday, May 5th, the top eight GSC teams in the conference will meet in Oxford to see who comes out on top on the Signature Baseball Field, also known as ‘The Big House,’ at Choccolocco Park. The winner of the championship game ensures a spot in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament, representing the GSC.
THE BIG HOUSE IS THE BEST FIELD IN THE NATION. Baseball teams often are victorious in their favorite stadiums, but it is unique for the stadium itself to be the victor. Uncommon things happen when a city builds a first-rate sports complex such as Choccolocco Park—like being named the National High School Baseball Field of […]
Upon entering the majestic Choccolocco Park, the crackle of intensity was apparent as you made your way to the GRAND stands to watch top level softball. There was music playing, and you could almost touch the exciting vibes as the Ohio Valley Conference student-athletes were smiling, high-fiving, and showcasing their dance moves to popular tunes during their warmups. The creative bows, masks, and other fun and quirky cheer props, as well as the laidback atmosphere among the contestants, had many of us fooled. Then, however, you heard the grunt from the pitcher as she threw what resembled bullets into the glove of the catcher. These girls were here for more than just fun and games. They were here for business. This, ladies and gentlemen, was going to be a tournament like no other.
If you were one of the thousands of people to attend the OVC Softball Championship between May 11-14, then you know exactly what we are talking about. The top eight schools in the OVC traveled to Oxford for the ultimate face off to determine which team would take it all: the pride, glory, trophy, and ticket to the NCAA tournament. Read more
“The British are coming! The British are coming!” Oh, wait a minute…No. It’s not the British… it’s the Ohio Valley Conference… coming to Oxford! It may not have as much national impact as the British coming had on the original colonies, but the OVC coming will have a major impact on Oxford, as the OVC Collegiate Softball Championship will take place at Choccolocco Park in May, the first of many high-profile tournaments to come to our community. The conference awarded the tournament to Oxford for 2017 as well.
In May, the top eight finishing teams in the conference will converge in Oxford to have a showdown on the Signature Softball Field at Choccolocco Park, Oxford’s state-of-the-art sports complex. This will determine the conference’s representative to the NCAA Tournament. These eight ladies’ teams will play a double-elimination tournament beginning Tuesday, May 11 (with four games beginning at 10:00 a.m.), and ending on Saturday, May 14 with the championship game at 12:30 p.m.
There’s a new park coming to Town! The city of Oxford is set for a major expansion and economic windfall with the creation of a state-of-the-art sports complex located near I-20 along the Eastern Bypass. The 370-acre complex, dubbed Choccolocco Park, is scheduled to open this summer and will play host to collegiate and interscholastic team competitions, amateur athletic events, tournaments, camps, clinics, and other sporting events for athletic teams and organizations of all levels and sizes.
The new complex will not only be an enormous venue for baseball, softball, soccer, and track and field events, but should attract outdoor enthusiasts as well. With the abundant water and other natural resources of the area, the complex includes a 29-acre lake with pavilions surrounded by a three-plus mile walking trail. It has a creek suitable for canoe and kayak float trips, and offers multiple recreational areas. Read more
